ZARA MCKENNA

Zara McKenna, 2012 Pastel Sunsets Collection Launch

The elegant, ornate Laruche Bar in Fortitude Valley became very cosy very quickly as local fashionistas swarmed in to get their mitts on a cocktail before the show.

Zara McKenna may only be 20 years of age, but the Brisbane designer sure knows how to pull a solid crowd and have everyone vying for front row views. Frills, bows, pastels and soft, flirty florals glide down the runway and each piece has the audience pointing and nodding in approval of the playful, romantic collection.

A certain sense of refined edginess also revealed itself in this collection with frills and patches of black velvet, midi skirts in a bold midnight beach print and ruffled tops in a sheer galactic print.

At the same time, the collection stayed true to its feminine roots while injecting quirky, contrasting features. There were sporty knee patches on leggings, dresses with frills in pops of colour and perfect, plump bows that replace the need for accessories.
